Benefits

Reset, Recover, Rejuvenate

Muscle Recovery

Exposure to cold water causes vasoconstriction, which is the narrowing of blood vessels, followed by vasodilation, the widening of blood vessels, upon rewarming. This cycle stimulates blood flow and circulation, which can enhance oxygen delivery to tissues, remove metabolic waste products, and promote overall cardiovascular health. This leads to more nutrients to muscles and faster recovery.

Immune Support

When we immerse ourselves in cold water, it prompts vasoconstriction, the flushing of the lymphatic system. Flushing the lymphatic system is beneficial for the immune system because it helps remove toxins, waste, and pathogens from the body, thereby supporting optimal immune function. The lymphatic system plays a crucial role in immune surveillance and defense by transporting immune cells and molecules throughout the body, identifying and neutralizing harmful substances, and maintaining tissue health

Improved Cognitive Function

Cold water therapy enhances focus through physiological and neurological mechanisms. Firstly, it activates the sympathetic nervous system, leading to increased alertness and mental arousal. This activation results in the release of neurotransmitters like adrenaline and noradrenaline, which are associated with improved cognitive function and attention.

Additionally, the vasoconstriction followed by vasodilation caused by cold water exposure enhances blood flow to the brain, delivering essential oxygen and nutrients for optimal cognitive performance ultimately improving focus and cognitive clarity. Moreover, the controlled stress response induced by cold water immersion contributes to mental resilience and the ability to maintain focus under pressure.

Mood Enhancing

Cold therapy offers potential benefits for depression by impacting various physiological mechanisms. It boosts neurotransmitters like noradrenaline and serotonin upon cold exposure, which are crucial for mood regulation and can alleviate depressive symptoms. Additionally, cold therapy releases endorphins, natural mood enhancers that reduce feelings of sadness and promote a sense of well-being. Moreover, it regulates stress hormones like cortisol, leading to decreased anxiety levels.

Fat Loss & Metabolism Boost

Cold therapy activates brown adipose tissue (BAT), a type of fat that generates heat to maintain body temperature. When exposed to cold, the sympathetic nervous system releases hormones that stimulate BAT activation.

This triggers the production of heat through a protein called UCP1, leading to increased calorie burning and fat metabolism. BAT activation by cold therapy can contribute to fat loss and improved metabolic health. Another form of cold therapy that can aid in fat loss is the energy burned by the body during the rewarming process.

Faster Recovery

Cold water therapy is a game-changer for athletes looking to bounce back quickly after intense workouts or competitions. The cold temperature helps reduce muscle soreness and inflammation by constricting blood vessels and decreasing blood flow to injured tissues. This constriction reduces swelling and numbs nerve endings, leading to pain relief and improved recovery times for muscle soreness, injuries, and inflammatory conditions.

Increased Mental Resilience

Cold therapy promotes mental toughness by challenging the body’s stress response, activating the sympathetic nervous system, and releasing stress hormones. Enduring discomfort builds resilience and perseverance, while regular exposure induces positive adaptations in the brain. This mental toughness helps individuals cope with challenges, stay focused, and persist in achieving goals, enhancing emotional regulation and self-confidence.

Improved Skin

Cold therapy improves skin by reducing inflammation, boosting circulation, tightening pores, stimulating collagen production, and reducing puffiness and dark circles. It provides relief from irritation and promotes a healthier, more youthful complexion.

Mindfulness & Presence

Cold water immersion forces us to be fully present in the moment, as we focus on the sensations of the cold water against our skin and the rhythm of our breath. This mindfulness practice can help quiet the chatter of the mind and cultivate a sense of inner peace and clarity. It’s like a meditation in motion, grounding us in the here and now and connecting us to our innermost selves.

Why The Vertical Cold Plunge Matters

Step In And Exhale

Benefits Of Sitting Up

Vertical Matters

When it comes to cold water therapy there are two shapes or styles that are most popular, There is the horizontal style which is much like a bath tub and then there is the Vertical Cold Plunge. The vertical plunge style as seen in the Cold Plunge Tub is not as common as the bath style because it takes the creation of a new design. The bath style is used often because it already exist where the vertical cold plunge is something new.

A vertical cold plunge has many benefits over the bath style. For starters the position is much more natural when experiencing an extreme force such as cold. The upright position allows for better breath control and breathing. When experiencing a cold plunge, breath control is everything. Being in a laid back position is for relaxing and counter to what is needed when in cold.

The height of the Cold Plunge Tub is the perfect height allowing full submersion. The greater the exposure the greater the physical response, the greater the benefits. By submerging by going down vertically no water gets in the practitioners nose and ears. This is a very common problem for the bath style. That is if there is even enough room to fully lay back. The bath style are popular because they are an easy, available shape but the vertical plunge is the superior design.

Can fully submerge
Natural ergonomic positioning
Better breath control while seated
Active position increases cold tolerance
No water up nose or in ears when submerged
No blood rush or pressure to head, post activity
Greater physiological response through depth
